⚖️ Weight Loss vs Fat Loss — they are NOT the same thing!
You may lose 5 or even 10 kg on the weighing scale—but the important question is:
👉 What did you actually lose: FAT, MUSCLE or WATER?
Weight loss simply means your total body weight has decreased. This reduction may come from body fat, muscle, water, glycogen, or a combination.
Fat loss specifically means reducing excess body fat—ideally while preserving healthy muscle.
That is why I tell people: don’t make the weighing scale your only measure of success.
Two people can weigh exactly the same but have completely different amounts of muscle and body fat.
Think of your body like a suitcase. 🧳
The weighing machine tells you how heavy the suitcase is—but not what’s inside it.
Reducing excess body fat and improving body composition can play an important role in metabolic health, including conditions such as fatty liver disease, insulin resistance, diabetes and hypertension.
So don’t ask only:
❌ “How many kilos did I lose?”
Also ask:
✅ “Am I losing excess fat?”
✅ “Am I preserving my muscle?”
✅ “Is my waist circumference improving?”
✅ “Am I becoming healthier and fitter?”
“Tarazu sirf wazan batata hai, sehat ki kahani nahi,
Har kam hota kilo, kam hoti charbi ki nishani nahi.”
As doctors, our responsibility should not begin only after disease develops. Prevention begins with awareness and education.
Don’t just become lighter. Work towards becoming healthier. ❤️
