‘Moordhasana’ means crown based pose. Moordhasana helps in toning of the mind and body as the blood flows to the head. It helps in developing balancing skills of the body and increases flexibility. Moordhasana or the crown-based pose is a standing yoga pose that works on your lower body. It has anti-ageing benefits too and hence helps you stay and look young. It improves your immunity and disease resistance and practicing this asana regularly can help regulate and prevent hormonal imbalances in both females and males.
The anti-ageing benefits of this pose include spine strengthening which keeps you fit and free from any spine related disorder that come up as you age. It improves your balancing skills and increases flexibility. It stretches the hamstrings and groin area along with your spine and arms. Moordhasana regulates the secretion from the pancreas, liver, and kidney. It also prevents and helps in coping with stress, anxiety or depression by balancing the nervous system. Neck muscles can also be strengthened using this posture and it also increases the blood flow to the brain.
Helps in the case of low blood pressure. It strengthens the neck muscles and brings a rich supply of blood to the brain. Balances the nervous system. Being a preliminary pose to Shirshasana it accustoms the brain to the increased blood flow and the crown to support the body weight.
This asana is best avoided by those suffering from severe asthma, blood pressure or slip disc. Don’t practice this pose if you have high blood pressure, heart conditions, inflammation of the ear, weak eye capillaries, cold or sinusitis, slipped disc, weak spine or vertigo, cerebral or other thrombosis.

You must make sure to keep your stomach and bowels empty before you practice this asana. Have your meals at least four to six hours before you do the asana so that your food gets digested, and there is enough energy for you to expend during the practice.
It is best to practice yoga first thing in the morning. As a beginner, it can be quite challenging to hold the pose for a long time. You can use the support of a wall as you start off.
